Full Building Services

ARCHIBUILD was initially approached to price and build a part single, part two-story rear extension in Gosport, Hampshire.

Covid-related delays gave us time to build a strong relationship with our clients, uncovering that the original design didn’t fully align with their vision. While they had been told this was the best they could have, we saw an opportunity to create something special.

By rethinking the design and crafting a tailored architectural solution, we transformed their home into a space that truly reflects their aspirations.

Transforming a 1950s Semi-Detached Home in Gosport with a Contemporary Extension

From Planning Permission to Dream Home

In late 2020, our clients approached ARCHIBUILD for a cost estimate to build a two-storey and single-storey rear extension for their 1950s semi-detached home in Gosport, Hampshire.

They had secured planning permission for a design by another architect and were searching for a home extension builder in Hampshire to bring their vision to life.

Turning a Delay into an Opportunity

Before costings could be prepared, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the project. However, this pause provided an opportunity to reassess the design, leading to a far more personalizedand functional home.

A Design That Truly Fits

Through discussions, it became clear that the original proposal didn’t fully meet their expectations. They had been led to believe it was their only option due to planning constraints.

At ARCHIBUILD, we reimagined the extension, crafting a design that better reflected their lifestyle. 3D visualizations ensured clarity and confidence in every decision before starting contruction.

Creating Open Plan Living That Flows

Open-plan living isn’t just about removing walls—it’s about creating a seamless, well-balanced space that enhances daily life. At ARCHIBUILD, we design open-plan layouts that feel spacious yet cohesive, ensuring natural movement between kitchen, dining, and living areas.

By carefully considering zoning, sightlines, and natural light, we create spaces that feelconnected while maintaining a sense of purpose for each area. Thoughtful positioning of furniture, lighting, and architectural features ensures that the space flows effortlessly, making it both practical and inviting.

Advising Where To Spend More

The original design included a mix of single and two-story extensions. The ground floor extension extended 6 meters deep, resulting in oversized, inefficient spaces that added unnecessary costs and were difficult to furnish effectively. Meanwhile, the two-story extension primarily prioritized the master bedroom, compromising the fourth bedroom and creating a cramped, awkward layout for both the family bathroom and en-suite.

Being Sensible About Space

ARCHIBUILD’s revised layout maximized space efficiency within a smaller footprint, ensuring every room was functional and well-proportioned. We carefully design each space with accurate furniture placement and movement zones, guaranteeing that once built, clients can use their homes comfortably and without compromise.

INTERIOR DESIGN

ARCHIBUILD were engaged to provide additional interior design services during the construction stage of the project to help create a family bathroom, en-suite and media wall. Like many clients, they had an idea of what they wanted to achieve, but were un-sure how it could work and look.

Our clients had ambition to create an en-suite that was moody and atmospheric but were worried this might be too much for a small space.

By utilising our 3D software, product and specification experience we were able to present a detailed design for client approval including a 3D model for them to move around on a computer or smart device and 2D imagery.

There are few positives to come from covid, but its impact on our project meant we were granted time to work with ARCHIBUILD. Our original design by a previous company didnt really suit us, but we were led to believe thats the best we could get through planning... we’re so greatful that ARCHIBUILD took their time to understand us and design something that completely suits us as people!
