ARCHIBUILD were commissioned to design a two-storey side extension and a single-storey rear extension to a 1960s semi-detached house in Gosport, Hampshire.

The client’s profession as an engineer resulted in an extensive accommodation brief, which also included a workshop and studio to support practical home working.

The extensions feature a crisp, contemporary aesthetic that contrasts elegantly with the original 1960s structure. A combination of vertical timber cladding, dark brickwork, dark render and slim-framed glazing creates a modern yet warm palette.

Large sliding glass doors open onto a carefully detailed terrace, seamlessly connecting inside and out, while a bespoke firepit and raised planter bed add both function and texture to the outdoor living space.

Skylights and considered material choices bring light and clarity into the interior, making the extension feel open, inviting, and designed for everyday living.

concept design

The Engineer’s House clients commissioned ARCHIBUILD to survey their home and provide the Concept Design package in 3D. Using the latest software packages the clients were able to walk through their proposed home and make comments and decisions on a computer screen before giving approval to move to the next stage.

The images below were images taken from the 3D concept model for the Engineer’s House. These images are representative of the level of detail and coordination clients can expect at the Concept Design stage of an ARCHIBUILD project.

PLANNING

Planning permission was granted in June 2023 with no objections from Gosport Borough Council.

TECHNICAL DESIGN

Following Planning approval ARCHIBUILD were commissioned to provide a detailed Technical package. These drawings are critical in providing the level of detail to fully cost the project whilst allowing for a detailed submission to Building Control for approval prior to construction.

Very Good Service from a great Designer.

Dean is a great designer and did a wonderful job with our plans. He listens to your dreams and converts it into a vision for your, he is also realistic and points out where certain things are not very practical. His work is astonishing. He is clear and precise with communication and keeps you informed in all aspects of the process.
